Schwan's USA CUP Weekend Tournament champions crowned on Sunday

BLAINE, Minn. (July 15, 2018) – Champions were crowned in 25 divisions of the Schwan’s USA CUP Weekend Tournament Sunday, July 15.

After a day off on Monday, Schwan’s USA CUP will resume on Tuesday, July 17. The Opening Ceremonies will be held at 7:30 Tuesday evening. The ceremonies will feature the traditional Olympic-style parade of teams, the Red Bull Sky Dive Team, fireworks and post-ceremony concert.

This year’s tournament features 1,150 teams from 20 states and 20 countries, making it the largest youth soccer tournament in the Western Hemisphere. The weekend and week-long tournaments together will generate an estimated $36 million in economic impact.

The Tokiwagi girls' team from Sendai, Japan celebrates their title. This was their second straight U19 championship in the USA CUP Weekend Tournament.

It was a good year for Minnesota clubs, with 10 winning titles. The Twin Stars Academy, Urban Ventures, REV Academy, Gitchi Gummi, Minneapolis United, Eclipse Select, Fusion SC, Minnesota Thunder Academy, Eden Prairie SC, and Tonka United each captured a championship.

Other U.S. states winning championships were Illinois (4), Wisconsin (3) and South Dakota (1).

Brazil led the chase among international teams, winning four championships. Other countries winning titles were Belgium, Norway and Japan, each with a single title.
