BLAINE, Minn. (July 23, 2016) – Championship games for all divisions of the 32nd Schwan’s USA CUP youth soccer tournament were contested Saturday, July 23 at the National Sports Center in Blaine.

It was an eventful day from a weather standpoint. After two game blocks were completed in the morning, lightning in the area forced two significant weather delays. The first, at 11 a.m., lasted 3 hours, 15 minutes. The second, an hour later, ran for 55 minutes. Games finally resumed for good at 4 p.m.

Minnesota teams captured 20 titles, with Texas, Kansas, Alaska and Illinois also winning championships.

Among the international teams, Canada, Brazil, Mexico, Iceland, Japan and Sweden captured titles.

This year’s tournament features a record turnout of 1,178 teams from 19 states and 19 countries, making it the largest youth soccer tournament in the Western Hemisphere. A total of 2,524 games were held over nine days.
