Minnesota teams win seven of 16 “A” flight championships at SCHWAN’S USA CUP Weekend Tournament July 12

BLAINE, Minn. (July 12, 2015) – Minnesota soccer clubs captured seven of the 16 “A” flight championships contested on the final day of the Schwan’s USA CUP Weekend Tournament Sunday.

Wisconsin boasted three winning teams, Illinois two, and Missouri one. Among the international champions Sweden, Brazil and Canada (Ontario) recorded one championship each.  

This year’s tournament featured a record turnout of 1,153 teams from 19 states and 16 countries, making it the largest youth soccer tournament in the Western Hemisphere. The weekend and week-long tournaments together will generate an estimated $32.2 million in economic impact.

Schwan’s USA CUP continues this week. After an off day on Monday, the Schwan’s USA CUP Weeklong Tournament continues on Tuesday, July 14. The Opening Ceremony will be the featured event on Tuesday. Starting at 7:30 p.m., that event will feature a colorful parade of teams, skydivers, fireworks, the lighting of the USA CUP cauldron, and a post-ceremony concert, Rock the Cup.
