As you approach the A3 and A4 fields, the new home for The Hub at Schwan’s USA CUP, you’ll notice an upbeat and relaxing energy in the air. Along with the classic favorites like sand soccer and inflatable fun comes a new addition to the tournament’s activity zone.
The Schwan’s Fan Village is USA CUP’s newest go-to hangout spot between games. Among the crowds and chaos, players and fans can stop by to relax and unwind with free ice cream and hot food samples or play yard games and giant Jenga.
“We just really wanted to provide an area for people to come and hang out and take a break from the soccer games,” Heather Malakowsky, Schwan’s corporate sponsorship and event specialist, said.
The fan village has already proven to be popular among players. The giant question board, which will change daily, allows players to sound off and voice their opinions on various topics. The first question, asking where players are from, created common ground among a group of players spanning the globe.
“I thought it was cool to see where people were from,” Emily Anderson, who plays for Blaine Soccer Club, said. “I live super close so it’s fun to see how far people have come for this.”
Others enjoyed the atmosphere and free giveaways between games.
“I came for the free ice cream,” Jason Riker, who plays for REV soccer club, said. “I’m coming back every day for more.”
The ultimate goal for Schwan’s is to create an interactive environment for players and fans at USA CUP.
“We really wanted to make it a destination for players to come,” Malakowsky said. “It was important for us to engage with the community and create some interaction.”
