Dave Berggren a reporter from KARE-11 television, the NBC affiliate in the Twin Cities, was on campus Friday shooting a story about the Haitian Initiative team. He managed to catch the first goal of a 4-0 Haiti victory over Minnesota Thunder Academy of the Twin Cities. The goal was a beautiful floater from well outside the box that lofted precisely over the goalkeeper’s arms. Dave was shooting from right behind the goal. After catching the goal on video, Berggren turned shut off his camera, picked up his tripod and said, “Doesn’t get any better than that!”
The Gitchi Gummi Soccer Club of Duluth, Minn. hosted about 60 Colombian players for a series of friendly exhibition matches on the campus of the University of Minnesota-Duluth. Nine matches were held the day before USA CUP began.
“The boys will see that they can compete with some of the top teams in the world,” Gitchi Gummi coach Scott Anderson told WDIO Television. “In Colombia, they grow up playing soccer. The boys here have played for a long time and these kids see that they can match up.”
