"Sipping from the CUP" is the new daily news column in The Daily Kick. Each day during Schwan's USA CUP, we'll be using this column to feature short news items, humorous things seen on the campus, and even some gossip! Read and enjoy.

Item One
National Sports Center operations staff estimates that they will go through close to 90 cases of water this week while working at USA CUP.

O'Neill (fourth from left) celebrates his 1,000 game with one of the teams, the Phoenix, a U19 girls team from Coon Rapids, MN

Item Two
Referee Ezra O'Neill from Aylesbury, England refereed his 1,000 game at Schwan's USA CUP today. He's currently playing collegiate soccer in the United States. O'Neill has been officiating at USA CUP for over six years.

Item Three
KSTP television, the Twin Cities' ABC affiliate, was on campus Thursday afternoon. Meteorologist Jonathan Yuhas interviewed USA CUP Medical Director Dr. Steve Elias about heat related medicine, tournament Media Director Barclay Kruse, and referee assessor Don MacKinnon. His angle? Heat!

Being a meteorologist and a marathon runner, Yuhas was able to ask questions from a different viewpoint than most reporters.

Item Four
In Wednesday's "Sipping from the CUP" we reported on the winning streak of the four teams from Floro, Norway, Floro SK. We wanted to update you on how the teams did on Thursday. The 16's, 17's and 19's all won their games. The 15's however, were knocked off by the Cicero Mayas, from Illinois, 4-1. That breaks the club's unbeaten streak and puts their total record in the USA CUP Weekend and Weeklong tournament at 32-1-1.
